Joel Espino Headshot
Joel Espino is a social justice lawyer with over 5 years’ experience working on advocacy, strategy, and research to leverage electric vehicle and mobility policy as tools for racial justice. He regularly speaks, presents, and advises on this topic.

Joel is with the Wend Collective–a social impact fund–and co-leads its clean transportation equity fund. The fund aims to address interconnected injustices by amplifying and growing social justice capacity and power with the aim of shifting transportation systems toward more justice, inclusion, and sustainability.

Prior to Wend, Joel was at The Greenlining Institute where he led on racial justice advocacy in clean transportation policy and research; helped implement the Charge Ahead California Initiative–a law working to make electric cars, trucks, and buses beneficial to low-income Black, Indigenous, and people of color; and led advocacy for equitable EV charging infrastructure investments at the California Public Utilities Commission, the California Energy Commission, and within the Volkswagen Diesel Settlement.
